Dude, What A FARTKNOCKER!

RyanOD | October 27, 2009

TVandPizza

So I was trying to think of  a good word that was clean, old school, and less negative than others. I finally came up with Fartknocker. Ah, yes, Fartknocker.

A term widely used by many second graders and of course Beavis and Butthead. So let’s get into what I am using the term to describe.

We are at the peak of the ‘automation’, ‘instant gratification’, and ‘find someone who can do it for me’ way of society.  That said, it’s going to become easier and easier to seem like a Fartknocker these days when it comes to knowledge and the effort to obtain it. Our society has become lackadaisical about their efforts to learn. We are bombarded with useful tools to expand our knowledge of topics, and still so many end up looking lazy. Plus, people come up with grandiose excuses as to why they can’t continue to learn about the things that affect their daily life.

It’s become clear to me, over the short life I’ve lived so far, that there is a part of traditional education that is useful. For the most part it’s the work ethic and lessons outside of what’s in the books that come in handy. The REAL learning is self taught. We hit the point where we realize we have to know FOR REAL how money, health, religion, etc. will affect our lives and how to work with them. This is when the Fartknockers go “oh crap, I don’t know which direction I should go” or “oh crap, I don’t know much about that because they didn’t teach that in school”. Ever notice how when people really like something they get deep into it and learn as much as they can. Most of the time these are just hobbies, but they want to be the best they can be around their friends and/or hobbyists. Then they roll through McD’s wondering how they can lose 30 pounds on their way to their Brokers office to ask “How’s my portfolio today Mr. Expert”?

So here’s the thing. I know I’m not the top notch know-it-all student either, but if it affects my life enough I at least try. Instead of just complaining about the Fartknockers, let’s work on not looking like one. No, 20 minutes on GOOGLE is not enough for you to learn what you deserve to learn about a topic. For god sakes become a student…for LIFE! Read books, attend seminars, and go to networking events. It’s time we start taking responsibility for our own lives and livelihoods. There’s too much good information and technology out nowadays for any excuses. You don’t like your situation?…then change it FARTKNOCKER!

In Joy,

RyanOD

Where I Find Value

RyanOD | October 20, 2009

This is a re-post from last week after I looked into the new FTC guidelines I wanted to re-post it. Yes, the link below is for my affiliation with Carlos Marin and Automatic Riches. It’s my only affiliation and I’m not an “affiliate marketer”.

The real point is that we are and you can become part of a massive personal empowerment community that will transform people lives. Especially after the event in Chicago I truly believe that everyone deserves this. However, your life must be your responsibility so with me this won’t be the “hard sell” you might see with other programs.

It’s simple…I believe in it and made great changes with it.   CLICK THIS LINK

I Am Pink Cadillac

RyanOD | September 29, 2009

Often there are times when we find ourselves in reflection mode. We ponder where we’re headed, how we feel, and/or most importantly who we are. Since I find myself there now, I’d like to share with you something I did (and like to do often) during my reflection. I went to Borders the other day and wandered around for a while looking and perusing and sipping my coffee until I came upon a little book called The Leap by Rick Smith. I was drawn to it and to be honest there weren’t a TON of copies (little did I know because it JUST came out), but something caught my attention and I sat down to read. Within the first few pages I knew I had a winner. The following are my results from a questionnaire to determine my Primary Color. Since you most likely don’t know what that is as Rick Smith would have you understand it, just go get this book…You won’t be disappointed!

Primary Color

This is a primary color that is characterized by action oriented, take charge behaviors. This is the “can do” group who just won’t take no for an answer. Frequently people in this group are very people oriented and extroverted in their interactions. If you fall in this group you are likely to be analytical and straight forward. You can be very decisive, yet are a strong strategic thinker.

You prefer situations that provide for considerable leeway in how you get the job done. There will times when others will see you as the visionary. You may also be viewed as an agent for change and will fit well in situations that are in flux and only loosely defined. If you find yourself leaning toward the Red area of the spectrum then you may be somewhat more introverted, often preferring time alone to get things done. In any event you need to feel appreciated for your intellect and will always do best when working with others who are intellectually quick and logical.

It is not unusual for leaders in this color cluster to perform best when they have a bright team that includes strong executors and managers who can appreciate the vision and turn the conceptual into something real. Effective delegation can be an issue for leaders in this color family. General managers are often found in this color area.
